I’m Buddy Coro — a music artist and creator on a mission to make art accessible, interesting, and free. I’ve always had a lot of creativity and I’m just letting that guide the way.
When I first started, most people didn’t understand what I was trying to accomplish. I’ve never been good at expressing myself or my goals with words. I’m awkward on camera and have a hard time stringing sentences together. I honestly can’t even say music comes naturally. I do however, work very hard at it because it’s important to me. It’s not uncommon for me to record the same verse hundreds of times before I’m happy with it.
The thing about music is it is fun, expressive, and most importantly, it has a low barrier of entry. I started as a junior in high school and went in knowing nothing. And that was the best thing possible. If I knew how much I didn’t know, I don’t think I would have even started.
My first couple songs were recorded in a friend’s basement into Apple headphones. We would have one phone playing the music off Youtube and another phone recording the vocals. No mixing. No mastering. Quality is usually subjective but my first couple songs were without a doubt – bad. But for some reason, I decided to receive my enjoyment from the creation process and not the outcome. I have a theory that it takes on average 100 songs before you make a good one. And then 50 more to make a second good one. Then 25… then 10. And eventually you can pretty much make a good song whenever.
I feel I’m at a good place with my music and now I’m diving into animation, with video game development on the horizon. I’ve never believed in limits. If something sparks my curiosity, I dive in. I don’t wait to be ready — I figure it out.
Another big part of my philosophy is I don’t believe ideas belong to anyone. They’re borrowed. Lent out to the person willing to act on it. The first few ideas you get are tests. Seeing what you will do with them. If you are able to successfully implement them, then the good ideas start coming.
Everything I make is an open invitation. Take it. Remix it. Build on it. Use it in your creations, films, music, games—whatever you’re making. No permission needed. Just make something cool.
And if you ever want to collaborate, just reach out. I do features for free. This isn’t just about making music. It’s about creating a space where ideas and creativity belong to everyone.
